Procedures
Physicians

Peripheral Nerve Block
A type of regional anesthesia. The anesthetic is injected near a specific nerve or bundle of nerves to block sensations of pain from a specific area of the body. Nerve blocks usually last longer than local anesthesia.

Trigger Point Injection
Trigger point injection (TPI) may be an option for treating pain in some patients. TPI is a procedure used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points may irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body.

Transforaminal Injection
A transforaminal injection is an injection of long acting steroid into the opening at the side of the spine where a nerve roots exits. This opening is known as a foramen. There is a small sleeve of the epidural space that extends out over the nerve root for a short distance.

Spinal Cord Neurostimulator
A spinal cord stimulator is a device used to exert pulsed electrical signals to the spinal cord to control chronic pain.

Discography
An injection technique used to evaluate patients with back pain who have not responded to extensive conservative care.

Percutaneous Discectomy
A percutaneous discectomy is a surgical procedure in which the central portion of an intervertebral disc is accessed and removed through a cannula.

IDET
A minimally invasive outpatient surgical procedure developed over the last few years to treat patients with chronic low back pain that is caused by tears or small herniations of their lumbar discs.
